A Moorhead police cruiser responding as backup and a pickup truck collided at the intersection of Fourth Street South and Main Avenue in Fargo around 12:30 this morning.

The crash left the northbound pickup on its side. The cruiser had visible damage as it came to a stop up against a light fixture on the northeast corner of the intersection.

The Moorhead officer was driving westbound on Main Avenue as another Moorhead officer was initiating a traffic stop ahead on a vehicle that crossed into Fargo on the Main Avenue Bridge, said Fargo Police Sgt. William Ahlfeldt.

The officer in the collision was Nicholas Schultz, Moorhead Police Sgt. Deric Swenson said.

The Moorhead cruiser had its lights and siren activated but was not in pursuit at the time and entered the intersection at a safe speed, Ahlfeldt said.

The Fargo Police Department is investigating the crash.
