Freezing temperatures hit parts of region

Freezing temperatures have returned to parts of the northern Red River Valley, dipping into the 20s above zero in Bemidji, Thief River Falls and Wakish, Minn., and hitting 30 degrees in Hallock, Roseau and Crookston.

Park Rapids reported 33-degree temperatures shortly before 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service office in Grand Forks.

Thief River Falls reported 28 degrees at 6:15 a.m., and Wakish the same temperature at 5:44 a.m. Bemidji was 29 degrees shortly before 6 a.m., and Crookston, at 5:56 a.m., was at 30 degrees.

The winds that buffeted the Red River Valley Friday have diminished, but stronger winds are expected to return Friday, and rain is more likely Friday, too, the weather service said. Today should be a dry day, with a partly sunny sky forecast and a high near 53 degrees in Park Rapids.
