High speed chase through two counties results in arrest

A nine-vehicle posse of law enforcement officers engaged in the lengthy chase of a suspected drunken driver Thursday morning through two counties, reaching speeds of 120 mph.

The chase ended when several squad cars were able to box in Benjamin Richard Cadwell, 34, of Bemidji.

He is jailed in the Hubbard County Correctional Center on pending charges of DWI, open bottle and fleeing peace officers. When Cadwell was arrested, the chase had moved from Hubbard County, over to Becker County and back into Hubbard.

The incident began around 10 a.m. when Park Rapids Police Chief Terry Eilers spotted Cadwell "turning donuts in the middle of the street and I thought, 'This is really dumb to do in front of a cop.'"
