Congestion causes two crashes on I-94 bridge

Authorities responded to two separate crashes on the Interstate 94 bridge between Fargo and Moorhead Tuesday, with one causing significant traffic delays.

The crashes did not cause any serious injuries, said Trooper Luke Hendrickson of the North Dakota Highway Patrol.

The eastbound lanes of I-94 have been congested during rush hour since the flood due to clay on the Eighth Street exit in Moorhead, Hendrickson said.

About 5:30 p.m., a rear-end collision caused a chain reaction that pushed an SUV into the center lane of traffic, he said.

A pickup traveling at 55 mph then struck the SUV, pushing it up on the guard rail of the bridge, Hendrickson said.

Four vehicles were involved in the crash. Responders needed to extricate one driver from a vehicle, but no one involved was hospitalized, Hendrickson said.

The crash caused traffic delays for up to 45 minutes, he said.

At about 6:45 p.m., a second crash involving two vehicles occurred at about the same location, Hendrickson said. That was a lower-speed crash, but one driver was taken to Innovis Health for minor injuries, he said.
