Gina Anderson search takes a turn

Gina Anderson

The search for Gina Anderson, the missing Thief River Falls woman, is taking a turn in West Fargo, N.D.

According to Jackie Pagel, Anderson's sister, law enforcement officers and divers from a local water rescue team will search a pond today or Tuesday in Rendezvous Park in southwest West Fargo.

The search is partly a training exercise as well as following up on an old tip from a couple who said they saw Anderson in West Fargo the day after she last was seen driving away from her Thief River Falls home Oct. 23.

Jim Van Schaick, Thief River Falls police investigator, said he's aware of a dive team that will search a pond this week, but is not involved with the search. "They are doing it partly as a training exercise," he said.

Deputies from the Pennington County Sheriff's Office interviewed the couple in West Fargo months ago, Van Schaick said. "They saw somebody, but we don't know if it was her or not," he said.

Pagel, in an e-mail this weekend to news media, said the eight-foot-deep pond was searched last week with underwater cameras, according to what law enforcement officials told her family. Nothing was seen.

The couple "is very convinced" they saw Anderson, Pagel said.

The search would be not for a car, but for a body, Pagel said.

Anderson, 32, last was seen driving away from her home in her bright yellow 2002 Pontiac.

No information about her or the car has panned out since, including searches of the Thief and Red Lake rivers in Thief River Falls.

Anderson left behind her purse and seizure medication.
