Man tries, fails to rob Roseau North Country Inn and Suites; police look for suspect

An armed short man wearing blue jeans attempted to rob a motel early Sunday morning in Roseau, Minn.

At 1:03 a.m. today, a man described as 5 feet, 2 inches tall, and 100 to 120 pounds, wearing a "blue-denim colored coat and blue jeans," tried to rob the North Country Inn and Suites, using a weapon, said Police Chief Ward Anderson.

No money was taken, but the man got away. Nobody has been apprehended yet.

"Nobody was hurt," Anderson said. "The clerk did a good job."

Anderson's not saying yet what kind of weapon the man used because the investigation is ongoing, and that information might be more useful if it's not made public.

The man appeared to be an adult Asian, although his face was "covered up some," Anderson said. It is believed he was driving a gray van.

The Roseau County Sheriff's Office is assisting in the investigation, and the Minnesota Burea of Criminal Apprehension has been notified, Anderson said..

No other similar crimes have happened recently in Roseau, he said.
