Evelena 'Hemmie' E. Zentner

Evelena "Hemmie" Esther Zentner, 93, of Menahga died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2006 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids.

She was born Jan. 14, 1913 to Chancy and Jennie (Hills) Blanchard in Wadena County. She attended country school near her home in the Huntersville area.

She married Lester John Zentner Aug. 27, 1931 in Wadena. They dairy farmed east of Huntersville. In the mid-1940s, they moved to Menahga where they owned and operated a restaurant and bar. She also worked as a cook at Hess's Café and Green Pine Acres Nursing Home. She worked at Badoura State Tree Farm pulling and counting young seedlings.

She was a member of Menahga United Methodist Church.

She is survived by five children, Darlene "Toby" Pulju of Wadena, Donna (Dick) Harsha of Park Rapids; Lester of North Branch, Arlis (Dave) Kern of Sebeka and Connie (Carl) Johnson of St. Michael; brother, Virgil "Stub" (Eleanor) of Park Rapids; 25 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; five siblings; son-in-law, Melvin Pulju; and daughter-in-law, Kathy.

Visitation: 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17 at Cardini-Pearson Funeral Home in Menahga and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Funeral: 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18 at United Methodist Church in Menahga with Rev. Loren Ferch officiating. The organist will be Jane Koskiniemi. Peggy Liimatta will sing "Amazing Grace" and "Precious Lord Take My Hand," along with Rev. Loren Ferch. Special music will be "We'll All Meet In Heaven."

Interment: Hubbard Cemetery.
