Letters: Menahga committee glad to get word out

I would like to thank Barbie Porter for the article that was in the Aug. 26 edition of the Enterprise titled "Menahga surveys reviewed."

The article was not only written reporting the facts that were presented, but with the "spirit" of the meeting as well.

Menahga, like most towns our size, is struggling trying to compete for businesses and industry, as well as the few grant dollars that are out there. That's why we feel we need to come up with a plan if we are to survive. We can hope that something comes our way, but in the words of Anderson Cooper, "Hope is not a plan."

The Menahga Moves Forward committee was formed to address the concerns of the community, as well as the needs of the community. We felt the best way to do this was to ask for the opinions of the community through a survey.

We were fortunate to have the results tallied by two Sebeka community members and summarized and presented by Dan Frank from the Initiative Foundation. The financial support for the printing, mailing and meeting room costs has been given by TruStar Federal Credit Union and the First National Bank of Menahga.

It does take a "village" to accomplish our goals. Again, I say thank you Park Rapids Enterprise for a job well done! It not only takes a village, but a few positive people from our "neighboring villages" as well. Good job!
