Ride Heartland Trail for May 19 bike opener
Pump some air in those bike tires. Dust off the helmet. Get ready to put muscles in motion.
The fourth annual Minnesota Bike Opener celebrates the start of biking season with a ride on the Heartland Trail on Saturday, May 19.
Admission is free for the Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber-sponsored event, held a week after fishing opener. ExploreMinnesota.com describes it as "a celebration of all things bike."
The event begins at 9 a.m. in Red Bridge Park on Beach Road and proceeds across the red bridge to Heartland Park, which serves as a trail head for the Heartland Trail.
Chamber representatives will be at the park from 9 to 11 a.m., where participants can register for prize drawings. Entrants do not need to be present to win.
The ride will be non-competitive, geared to all ages, with families welcome to participate. Bikers from across the region are invited to pedal in for the fun.
