Here is good news for those in need of housing: a free guide to Park Rapids apartment listings is in development.
A booklet titled "Park Rapids Apartment Listings," provided by the Hubbard County Regional Economic Development Commission (HCREDC), will soon be available to view online or download and print at www.hubbardcountyedc.com.
Hard copies are also available at the HCREDC office on the third floor of the courthouse and at Northwoods Bank.
David Collins, HCREDC executive director, acknowledged the bank for doing "an excellent job" keeping a list of homes available to rent in the community. In a phone interview, he said, "We didn't have a list of all the apartments with four or more units in one place."
So, EDC staff — notably administrative assistant Carolyn Pfeifer — compiled the apartment listings booklet, posted it on the commission's website, and provided copies to a number of other organizations in town.
"Carolyn put a lot of time and effort into this," Collins said.
Pfeifer said the website is still in the design process. When complete, she said, it will be interactive, allowing users to click on a map to get information about a specific apartment complex.
Collins said the reason HCREDC tackled this task was to allow them to help employers who are recruiting new staff members into town.
"We wanted to give them something to quickly give an overview of the apartment complexes," he said, "so they can quickly narrow down their options."
The printed booklet will be updated at least twice a year, Collins said, with new information incorporated online when it is submitted.
A sample of the booklet, weighing in at 24 pages, included color maps, photos, floor plans, detailed descriptions of building amenities and apartment dimensions, and a chart to aid users in comparing the options available.
The back cover features a listing of contact information of other housing-related organizations, adding, "To find rentals that are not included on this list, please check the local newspapers and internet for available rentals."
