Knute Nelson invites the community to a ceremonious groundbreaking for Crystal Brook Senior Living, the newest lifestyle community, at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 15. The ceremony will take place at their site on 1006 Crocus Hill Street in Park Rapids. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Itasca Mantrap Cooperative at 16930 County 6, Park Rapids.

RSVPs appreciated, but not required. Please email or call Samantha Beckman, Vice President of Marketing at or leave a voicemail including your name at (218) 699-3605.

Crystal Brook Senior Living will consist of 69 independent/assisted living apartments and 19 memory care assisted living units. A thriving town center is the central focus of the building that will include a community room, fitness room, salon, bistro, card/club room, dining room, lobby, activity room, outdoor terrace, resident storage, spa, and underground parking. The project will create approximately 40 jobs or 28 full-time equivalent positions with a total cost of $18,100,000.

Knute Nelson plans to use an "aging in place" housing model, also known as a hybrid senior lifestyle model, and specifically impacts the independent living and assisted living areas. This style of living allows the resident to start in the independent living and add services as needed without having to move to another area of the building.

The need for expanded health care choices and senior housing in the Park Rapids area is prevalent. The Knute Nelson Board of Directors is responding to these challenges to ensure community members remain living in Park Rapids.

"We understand the best health care is health care that is closest to home and this groundbreaking brings us one step closer to ensuring the Park Rapids community has the services and choices for care that area families need and depend on now and into the future," said Mark Anderson, president/CEO of Knute Nelson.

Knute Nelson's general contractor and partner for the Crystal Brook Senior Living project is Innovative Builders, Inc. of Alexandria. Construction is anticipated to begin in June and span 13 months. Crystal Brook Senior Living is anticipated to open for occupancy in Fall 2018.

Housing reservations will start being accepted on June 16. Crystal Brook Senior Living marketing office is located in the Armory Building at 201 Park Ave. South Suite A, Park Rapids.

Knute Nelson Home Care has been serving the Park Rapids area with quality nursing, home health aide and therapy services since 2012. The home health agency will occupy space in the newly established housing project once construction is completed.
