The Park Rapids Fire Department will be smokin' this Saturday.

Firefighters are grilling a hot lunch, featuring their "famous firehouse beans," and offering public tours of the newly remodeled fire hall.

Their annual open house, slated from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is a family-friendly event. Smokey the Bear will make an appearance alongside the Park Rapids crew.

Several demonstrations are planned: a propane fire, a kitchen fire, an auto extrication and an air care helicopter landing. Volunteer firefighters spent many hours in training to learn different techniques for fighting all kinds of fires, using the "Jaws of Life" and conducting water rescues.

Face painting, caricatures, henna, a dunk tank and two bouncy houses with slides are among the entertainment.

Freewill donations will be accepted.
