Free program helps seniors manage their medication

The Park Rapids Senior Center and Living at Home will host medication management sessions on Thursday, Dec.15.

Beginning at 8 a.m., these sessions are open to all area seniors and are free.

Participants will learn about drug interactions, appropriate doses, potential cost savings and more from a pharmacist with this Senior Medication Management project.

Appointments for one-on-one medication management consultations should be made in advance. For further details or to make an appointment, call the Living at Home Program at 732-3137.

The pharmacist will meet with seniors to ensure that medication complications are avoided by examining the following:

• Drug-drug interactions

• Drug-condition interactions

• Appropriate doses

• Correct drug administration and usage

• Proper monitoring of drug therapy

• Therapeutic duplication

• Potential cost savings (when appropriate)

The Medication Management Program is a collaborative effort of the Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls and the Land of the Dancing Sky Area Agency on Aging to offer medication assessments for seniors.
