Hubbard County names AIS inspector
Bill DonCarlos has joined Hubbard County Environmental Services as the Aquatic Invasive Species Program Coordinator.
The 2014 University of Minnesota-Duluth environmental studies graduate began duties as "point person" for AIS inspection May 31. Forty state trained and certified inspectors now check watercraft on 30-plus Hubbard County lakes.
Growing up next to the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area near his hometown of Wyoming, DonCarlos developed an affinity for the great outdoors.
"Hunting and fishing, that’s what drives me," he said of his pastimes. Carlos Avery was "a model that instilled the importance of habitat restoration and conservation."
Journeys from his home in Laporte have acquainted him with Hubbard County’s landscape.
Plans call for meeting with lake associations and townships, compiling data and plans for next year.
"It will be a busy summer," he predicts. "I’m excited."
