Companeros to be rebuilt

Lightning is believed to be the cause of the fire that destroyed Companeros and Dorset House restaurants in September 2014.

Compañeros and the Dorset House will be rebuilt, likely beginning this fall.

Rick and Laura Kempnich, owners of the buildings that were destroyed by fire in September 2014, announced Tuesday that Levi and Beth Durgin, who met while working at the restaurant, will rebuild the structure.

The menus of the two restaurants, for the most part, will remain intact. The structure will have a single kitchen, but both the soda fountain and Mexicano restaurante will engage appetites.

“They’re part of the Comps family,” Rick said of Levi, who grew up in Nevis and began working as a dishwasher at 14.

Beth, a Spanish teacher in the area, worked summers as a waitress.

“Their first official date was the night after working their tails off at the 2004 Taste of Dorset,” Rick said.

The Durgins will be moving with their six children from Big Lake to begin their new venture.
