Roofer dies after fall at Minnesota Vikings stadium site; second person in serious condition

A construction worker has died after an accident at the Minnesota Vikings stadium.

A statement from John Wood, senior vice president from Mortenson Construction, said one worker from Berwald Roofing has died and another is in serious condition after the accident about 7:45 a.m. on the U.S. Bank Stadium construction site.

They were working on the north side of the building.

All work on the project has been stopped.

The Minneapolis Fire Department reported on Twitter that a  person had fallen into a crevice on the roof and was trapped with injuries, later saying a second victim was transported from the scene.

Roof installation was scheduled to be completed in November, according the Minnesota Vikings website.

The 1.8 million-square-foot facility is slated to open just in July, in time for the 2016 football season.

The construction of the $975 million supports about 7,500 construction jobs, according to the Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority.
