Woman dies after being found with head on fire outside Crookston home
Balvir Kaur, of Crookston, died on Thursday at Hennepin County Medical Center, one day after she suffered severe burns, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The office said the circumstances surrounding Kaur’s death were under investigation by the state fire marshal, police in Crookston and the medical examiner.
Police and fire personnel were called to the home in the 300 block of S. Nelson Street about someone on fire. Personnel arrived and found Kaur ablaze. The two-story house on the west side of the city was slightly damaged from flames, authorities said.
Officials said the woman was alone at the time in the home, where her son and his family also live.
Neighbor Dan Friebohle told KVLY-TV in Fargo that he used his hat to put the flames out on her head.
“There was a bag burning between the house and garage,” Friebohle said. “So, I don’t know if she was doing something in the house that … ignited. She was burned really bad.”
