Cass County K9 gets bulletproof vest

K9 Yankee Receives New Vest Through Vested Interest in K9s Inc.

CaJah Salon in St. Paul hosted an Annual benefit for Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. on September 27th raising over $11,500.00 that will outfit 12 Minnesota K9’s with ballistic vests. The Cass County Sheriffs’ Office K9 Yankee has been selected as a recipient of one of these vests.  Nine of the vests, including the vest for K9 Yankee, will be embroidered with the following sentiment: "This gift of protection given in memory of Ofc. Patrick MHPD."

In 2012, Cass County was able to purchase Yankee, a 3 year old German shepherd by using grant funds received from the George W. Neilson Foundation. Deputy Bill Conner and K9 Yankee are active in working and training and they have received many certifications and awards. Sheriff Burch states “The generosity from the Vested Interest in K9’s Inc will allow Deputy Conner and Yankee to continue to safely serve the citizens of Cass County. We are very fortunate and thankful to the many volunteers of this program and to be a recipient in this worthwhile program of one of the K9 ballistic vests.”
