County courthouse and sheriff’s support employees form union
A majority of 24 employees of Hubbard County voted to form a union represented by the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 65 late last month.
The State of Minnesota’s Bureau of Mediation Services conducted a mail-ballot election and certified election results on July 22, 2014.
Employees participating in this election, who work in the Hubbard County Courthouse and Sheriff’s Office, perform vital technical and support work for the county.
Recent actions by the county board to reorganize departments have caused great uncertainty among employees. Departments have been combined and many vacant positions remained unfilled.
Front-line courthouse employees have taken on additional duties and assumed greater responsibilities.
As the employees see it, the reorganization plan is constantly changing and produced nothing but stress, low morale and deteriorating service to the public.
Employees are now seeking a voice, through collective bargaining, to restore the high level of service Hubbard County citizens deserve and county employees are only too eager to provide.
AFSCME, Council 65 represents over 13,000 local government and private-sector employees in greater Minnesota, including support employees at the Park Rapids School.
