A series of weekend power outages left city and county residents alike in the dark.
A dozen outages were caused by high winds Friday night, leaving 309 members of Itasca-Mantrap without power for around 90 minutes, said CEO Michael Monsrud. Mostly it was tree branches toppling onto the wires, Monsrud added.
In Park Rapids, the power went out at 11:52 p.m., Friday, was restored at 12:53 a.m.
The 61-minute outage affected 1,109 customers connected to the Birch Lake Substation, which includes Hackensack and the Portage Lake areas.
“The cause was determined to be a burnt off pole top off County Road 50 in Shingobee Township (most likely struck by lightning). Minnesota Power crews will be following up with repairs today,” said Customer Communications Administrator Kelley Eldien.
