Fire victims to receive relief funds in October

The Green Valley Fire Relief Fund will be distributed in October.

Thousands of dollars were raised for those affected by the Green Valley Fire at a community fundraiser in July. Additional funds have come in after that event.

The Green Valley Fire Relief Fund Board is determining how these funds will be dispersed to victims of the fire. The board is accepting applications through Oct. 7. All the money will be disbursed at that time.

Each application receives an initial check. Once the deadline arrives the remaining money will be split evenly among the applicants. This is a change from the original plan but was made to speed up the distribution of money to those who need it most, according to the board.

Applications are available at Shell Sport and Bait in Menahga.

The board is thankful to the communities of Menahga, Park Rapids and Sebeka for the support of the victims of the fire. It is truly wonderful to be living in an area that cares so much for each other, board members said in a release.

The Menahga Fire Department has also added to the funds through t-shirt sales and the board wants to add special thanks to the firefighters. Menahga School also helped throughout the summer.

“There are so many people, businesses and organizations to thank and these are just a few. For those not listed here thank you for everything you’ve done. We can assure you that everyone receiving the money is grateful for the help,” the board said in a news release.
