Burlap transformed into a thing of beauty

Kira Marlett makes beautiful things out of burlap.

She and her mother make wreaths, bags, Christmas trees, flowers, you name it.

And burlap is coming in funky shades, not just brown.

She bought some particularly festive burlap at JoAnne’s Fabrics in Bemidji that was green and red striped.

“It’s something I can do at home with my kids,” she said. “I have four little boys.”

Marlett worked at a floral shop for years, so she has a good eye for design.

There’s the chicken coop trees, all lit for the holidays.

Soaps round out her repertoire, along with burlap light garlands.

She was one of 44 crafters last Saturday at the Christmas Showcase at Armory Square. She can be reached at 252-1054.
