Heeren to receive LWV award

Pam Heeren

The League of Women Voters (LWV) of Park Rapids has selected Pam Heeren as this year’s Making Democracy Work Award winner.

Heeren, who is Hubbard County auditor/treasurer, was named Minnesota Auditor of the Year in 2012 and has served as president of the County Auditor-Treasurer Association and president of the Minnesota Association of County Officers.

Hubbard County residents often have their first exposure to the courthouse through the auditor-treasurer’s office. Heeren believes that serving people, often taxpayers, as customers is the best approach to ensuring the best outcome, even in difficult situations.

She also works closely with Hubbard County’s city and township election officials to achieve nearly flawless election results year after year.

The LWV of Park Rapids has benefitted from her assistance in local voter registration efforts.

A dinner celebrating Heeren’s “contribution to democracy” will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 7 at Bella Caffe. A menu of selected items will be offered. Diners are responsible for their own purchases. RSVP to
