Nevis served 26 aces and tallied 34 kills in a 25-9, 25-11, 25-12 volleyball win at Cass Lake-Bena Tuesday night and had 20 aces and 40 kills in a 25-9, 25-9, 25-10 win at Blackduck Thursday night.

Midway ousts Wolf Lake, earns trip to state
After losing the first four meetings this season, Midway defeated Wolf Lake when it counted the most.
Midway, which lost to Wolf Lake 7-3 and 3-0 during the regular season and 6-5 and 13-2 in the Lake and Pine League North Division playoffs, made up for those setbacks with a dramatic 6-5 win in 13 innings in the Region 16C tournament Saturday night at Perham.

Usher, Miller defend titles at HCC
Another consistent 45 holes led to another Men’s Club Championship for Tadd Usher at Headwaters Country Club last weekend.
Usher captured his fifth consecutive men’s title as a 69 on Saturday and a 68 on the first 18 holes on Sunday led to a 174 and 10-stroke victory over Taylor Schroeder and 13-shot advantage over Walt Leckner.

Midway stays alive in Region 16C tourney with win over Alexandria
Midway stayed alive in the Region 16C amateur baseball tournament by winning two of three games over the weekend.
The Snurdbirds opened the tournament with a 15-3 win over the Fergus Falls Hurricanes Saturday afternoon in Dent before dropping a 5-4 decision in 10 innings to the Brandon-Evansville Bluedogs Saturday night at Perham.

Mixed doubles tennis tradition continues
Back in the early 1970s, Mel and Jane Hughes, Mark and Barb Thomason, and Royce and Kathy Peterson were among a group of couples who met every Friday night to play mixed doubles tennis on the two sand courts across from the old Park Rapids Middle School.
