Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers celebrate 35 years A town of thousands sputtered to life over the weekend north of Itasca State Park, one that has come into being for 35 years. “I don’t know how many we have but they’re sure a ‘comin,” said Pioneer volunteer John Erickson of the attendance. Jim Evans of Iowa Falls, Iowa, was a first-timer, bringing his half scale Case threshing machine up for the show. “It’s a nice show and I’m really impressed by the showgrounds,” he said. Among the “old-timers” was a Clearwater County tractor that built many of the roads around Itasca State Park. With heritage buildings serving as the backdrop, the annual event includes demonstrations of gas, steam, diesel and hot air engines, woodworking and planing shows and photos of past relics.
