Eastern Hubbard County Fire District firefighters responded to the blaze that was reported at about 11 p.m. Owner of the home is Mark Johnson, according to firefighter Troy Hegg. The home, located on Highway 34 east, has been abandoned for about eight years, he said.

Combine chain breaks, igniting fire Park Rapids and DNR firefighters responded to a blaze Thursday afternoon that began in a cornfield and traveled into the woods at the Becker-Hubbard county line. The gathering chain broke on a combine on land being farmed by Becker Farms, sparks igniting the corn, according to Park Rapids fire chief Donn Hoffman. Five DNR trucks and a helicopter and five trucks from Park Rapids arrived. Becker Farms personnel used a disc on the corn to prevent the fire from spreading. The combine suffered minimal damage, and was driven off the field.
