Traffic deaths down dramatically in Minnesota in 2009
In Minnesota, 403 people lost their lives as a result of traffic crashes in 2009, the lowest number of highway fatalities since 356 people died on the road in 1944. The preliminary number was released Monday by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, and may rise as more reports are received, according to a news release from the department. The final numbers will be available in the summer.

UPDATED: Two Menahga residents injured west of Osage in one-vehicle accident
Two Menahga residents were taken by ambulance Monday afternoon to a Park Rapids hospital following a one-vehicle accident on Highway 34 west of Osage.
Both received minor injuries, said emergency personnel on the scene.

A Hubbard County employee was one of two men killed at the scene of a collision Thursday afternoon in Farden Township in northeastern Hubbard County.
Laird Hensel, 47, of Laporte, was northbound on County Road 45 when his 1997 Ford Supercab truck was struck by an eastbound vehicle driven by Eugene McArthur Jr., 57, of Ogema.
