Last year, in 2010, during the fourth week of August, both the Park Rapids Enterprise and the Northwoods Press carried a Richard Schmidt Letter to the Editor prompted by his evident distress over the insistence of the Hubbard County Coalition of Lake Associations (COLA) that the Shoreland Management Ordinance be firmly and evenhandedly enforced by the County Board, Planning Commission, and Board of Adjustment (BOA). It was an emotional letter – something of a harangue, actually – that accused COLA of elitism and extolled the primacy of personal property rights above all else.
