Mary Rose (Zimmerman) Brooks, 73, of Park Rapids, formally of Little Falls area, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at her residence near Park Rapids.

Mary Rose (Zimmerman) Brooks, 73, of Park Rapids, formally of Little Falls area, died Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012 at her residence near Park Rapids.

Mary Rose Gerads was born Sept. 6, 1938 in Upsala to John and Theresa (Muellner) Gerads. She grew up in Upsala and graduated from Upsala High School in 1956. She moved to Little Falls and worked at Northwestern Bell as a switch-board operator.

Oct. 18, 1958 she married John Zimmerman. They had four children, Sandy, Susan, Steve and Dennis. They farmed together for a number of years and was later divorced. She moved to Little Falls and worked at Sanitary Bakery and then bought the Twelve Mile Tavern which she owned and operated for six years.

Mary married Rod Brooks and they moved to Park Rapids. While in Park Rapids she worked at Pamida and Hafner’s Greenhouse until she retired. She was also a member of Otto Hendrickson American Legion Auxiliary.

She loved plants and making floral arrangements, Wheel of Fortune and going to the casino. She enjoyed all the visitors and friends that came to the house.

She is survived by her loving husband, Rod; three children; three stepchildren and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Susan Zanda; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Gerads; brother-in-law, Tony Ostendorf; step-grandson, Brandon Brooks; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service: 11:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, at Joy Christian Center in Sauk Rapids/St. Cloud.

Visitation: two hours prior the service at Joy Christian Center. Pastor Bob Light is the officiate.

Inurnment: a private family inurnment will be at a later date.

Arrangements are being handled by Cease Funeral Home of Park Rapids.
