David William Fischer

David William Fischer, 55, of Mahnomen, formerly of the Park Rapids area, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

David William Fischer, 55, of Mahnomen, formerly of the Park Rapids area, peacefully passed away Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2010 at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.

David was born May 1, 1955 to Robert William and Patricia Ann (Wenisch) in Fort Campbell, Ky. Robert was a military man, so the young family moved numerous times before settling in Minnesota.

David attended the Carver Catholic School and participated in the wrestling program. David qualified for the Minnesota state wrestling tournaments and won the championship title three different years. After graduating high school in 1973, David enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served his country for 9 years.

David was united in marriage to Sharon Jean Karnik Dec. 30, 1993 in Chaska. Their family was welcomed in many communities, including Carver, Arlington, Sebeka-Menahga areas and Park Rapids before settling in Mahnomen in 2007.

David was a master plumber and was self-employed until he retired in 2008 due to his illness.

David will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon; daughters, Jennifer and Josephine; stepchildren, Rob (Cheryl) Karnik and Sherry (Randy) Schave; step-grandchildren, Jeremy, Brittany and Angie Karnik and Brok Schave; brothers, Jeffrey, Michael (Perry) and Brian; sister, Linda (Timothy) Squires; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends

David is preceded in death by his parents, Patricia and Robert; nephew, Michael Fischer and his uncle Romie Wenisch.

Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids.

Visitation: 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home in Park Rapids.

Active casket bearers: Randy Schave, Marya Lillquist, Mike Botz, Dennis Karnik, Josh Karnik, Tim Roush, Travis Roush, Elizabeth Roush, Keith Roush and Tony Fischer.

Honorary casket bearers: Stephanie Frederick, Jeremy Karnik, Brittany Karnik, Brok Schave, Jordan Wizner and Joshua Fischer.

Interment: St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church Cemetery in Park Rapids.
