William ‘Bill’ Bishop

William “Bill” Bishop, 70, of Park Rapids, (formerly of Mapleton, N.D.) died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 at Sanford Health, Fargo, N.D.

William “Bill” Bishop, 70, of Park Rapids, (formerly of Mapleton, N.D.) died Monday, Aug. 30, 2010 at Sanford Health, Fargo, N.D.

William Wells Bishop was born July 17, 1940, in Fargo, N.D., son of James and Runa (Arneson) Bishop. He grew up and attended schools in Mapleton, N.D. Bill graduated from Oak Grove High School, Fargo, in 1958, before serving in the North Dakota Army National Guard.

Bill married Karon Piper Sept. 9, 1961, in the Canaan Moravian Church and farmed near Mapleton, N.D. He also operated a trucking company before moving to Park Rapids in 1999. He retired in 2002, but continued to help his sons with farming.

Bill enjoyed ice fishing, cards, sports, playing pool, working and his friends from Two Inlets and his grandchildren.

Bill is survived by his wife, Karon, Park Rapids; three sons, Joey Bishop, Mapleton, N.D., Alex (Nancy) Bishop, Park Rapids and James Bishop, Park Rapids; brother, Robert Bishop, Eagle, Idaho; and three grandchildren, Cole, Danielle and Jake Bishop.

He was preceded in death by is parents; and his son, Jeffrey Bishop.

Funeral service: 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3 at First United Methodist Church, Fargo, N.D.

Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2 at Hanson-Runsvold Funeral Home, Fargo, ND.

Burial: Mapleton Cemetery, Mapleton, ND.
