Hubbard Township fire

Park Rapids firefighters and the Department of Natural Resources responded to a blaze that ignited in a cornfield east of CSAH 11 and north of 140th Street in Hubbard Township Friday. Property owner Vern Erickson and employee Bruce Henderson drove into the cornfield, exited the vehicle and a short time later noticed the car and cornstalks were on fire, according to the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Department. The DNR gained control of the fire, with the aid of a helicopter, after approximately five acres of the field and tree line burned. The fire appears to have started under the vehicle, according to the sheriff’s department. No one was injured. The incident is under investigation by the sheriff’s office. (Jean Ruzicka / Enterprise)
