It's interesting to note that your " No New Taxes" quote must not include the property taxes on the family lake cabin we have had since 1972. I realize all the reasons like appriciation, mill levy ect lead to a increase but the checks we write to Hubbard County increase every year. Spin it anyway you want but our taxes DO increase each year with little return for our 60 days of enjoyment per year. Jeff J

The problem with this editorial, the report it is based on, and the whole idea of "No New Taxes" is quite simply the fact that the issue of privatization is left out. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that if you have less money coming in for highway maintenance then you will see a reduction in the quality of highways. In the same way if you reduce the amount of money going to schools you will see a reduction in the number of teachers relative to the number of students. What I want to see is not a "No New Taxes" promise, but instead I want to see a privatization promise. Let the schools be private and let people make their own choice as to where their children are educated. Let the highways be privatized so that those roads that are used by the few are paid for by the few and those that are used by the many are paid for by the many. I say let the people spend their money as they see fit! On the Minnesota 2020 website the group describes itself as "progressive". The ironic thing about that is that the word progressive means a change to something new. Minnesota 2020 seems to want to go back to the same old ways of doing things. I would encourage them to be truly progressive and work towards a state where people have a choice on how to use their money.

Dismantling? Minnesota maintains the ninth highest overall tax rate in the union.
