1,700+ flock to annual Park Rapids fishing derby

Sunfish and suntans greeted anglers Saturday at the 14th annual Park Rapids American Legion Community Fishing Contest.

The lines to weigh fish on Fish Hook Lake were so long at one point, some went back to fishing because the wait there was considerably less.

“I’m pulling up a bluegill every four seconds complained one angler.

Temperatures in the mid 30s with plenty of sun made the fish restless.

The festivities continue through the weekend at the Park Rapids American Legion with a fisherman’s ball and awards presentation Saturday night and a pancake breakfast Sunday morning.
