Clyde Walter Johnson, 90, of Park Rapids, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 at his home on Potato Lake after years of compromised health.
Clyde, a long time resident of Park Rapids, was born Aug. 16, 1919 to Louisa and Melvin Johnson. He was the ninth of ten children and the last survivor of his family.
He was raised and attended school in Park Rapids. Clyde married Alfrieda Ruth Knorr in 1946 and they had two children, Nancy and Steven.
Clyde enlisted in the U.S. Army and after World War II, Clyde started and operated Johnson Construction Co. for many years before his retirement. During his work career, Clyde was involved in several building projects including: the original Park Rapids Rest Home, Medical Arts Building, Court Apartments, the Johnson Building and several other retirement apartments.
Clyde was a member of the Otto Hendrickson American Legion Post 212, Park Rapids Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Park Rapids Lion’s Club, the local Masonic Lodge, obtaining 32 Mason and became a Shriner. He was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alfrieda; two children, Steven (Glenda) Johnson of Park Rapids; Nancy (Kerry) Harmanis of Australia; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation: 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 4, at Jones-Pearson Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, March 5 at Riverside United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Bird officiating.
Active casket bearers: Artie Burns, Larry Kenow, Armin Hawkins, Jim Gray, Kyle Johnson and Blake Johnson.
Interment: Greenwood Cemetery of Park Rapids.
Military honors will be by the Star of the North Marine Corps League under the command of David Free.
A luncheon will be hosted by the Riverside Methodist Church in Park Rapids following the service.
