The Northern Light Opera Company (NLOC), in cooperation with Pine Point School District, is presenting NLOKids Theater Workshop for children ages 9 through 13.

Grants from the White Earth Tribal Council, Region 2 Arts Council and Itasca Mantrap makes it possible to offer the workshop free of charge.

The workshop will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesdays through Fridays, July 2-20 in Pine Point, with school bus transportation available from Park Rapids.

In the space of two weeks, participants will be led by four directors to create and produce their own original musical. Children will write an original script, create songs, and design sets and costumes.

Vocal projection, singing, character work and creative movement will all be worked on for the final production. As an overall goal, children will work together in a collaborative process, gaining self-confidence, making new friendships and creating a final production that is open to the public.

Theater professionals Lisa Dove and Greg Paul — stage and technical directors for NLOC — will guide the workshop, along with student directors Maya Schultz and Hawken Paul.

Bus transportation is provided, departing at 9:30 a.m. from Park Rapids Area Century School and returning at 2:30 p.m. Lunch will be provided by Pine Point School District.
