The Minnesota State High School League 24A Sub-Section One Act Play Competition will be hosted by Park Rapids Area High School Saturday, Jan. 25 in the high school auditorium.
Six area schools will perform on Saturday: Laporte, Menahga, Nevis, Verndale, Pequot Lakes and Park Rapids. This competition is always a full day of theater with performances starting at 9 a.m. and lasting through early afternoon.
The Park Rapids Area High School theater department will perform the play “FREAK” by Angela Hill. An open dress rehearsal of this one act will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23 in the high school auditorium.
“FREAK” is a fantasy, social drama exploring bullying and its extreme consequences. Though sometimes dark, “Freak” emphasizes hope.
Winston Churchill said it best: “If you are going through hell, keep going!”
The One Act Play competition Jan. 25 is free for all audience members. People can come for one performance or stay for as many as they would like to see.
The first and second place schools will advance to the Section 6A contest in Pequot Lakes Saturday, Feb. 1.
