Audition dates set for summer production of 'The Music Man'

Northern Light Opera Company announces auditions for 'The Music Man,' to be presented the last weekend in July and first weekend in August at Park Rapids Area High School Auditorium.

Singer/actors of all ages including youngsters who play musical instruments (76 trombones?) are needed for this delightful family musical. There are many wonderful parts to be filled in "The Music Man" - Harold Hill the con man band instrument salesman; Marian, the librarian; Winthrop, her young brother with a lisp; Amaryllis, Marian's piano student; a school barber shop quartet; as well many other wonderful town characters.

"This is a big musical," said Paul Dove, NLOC Artistic Director. "And should be a great opportunity for parents, grandparents, and children to get involved."

Auditions will be in Park Rapids at Calvary Lutheran Church on Tuesday, April 19 at 4 and 5:30 p.m., (children are encouraged to come at 4 p.m.) and in Walker at Hope Lutheran Church on Wednesday April 20 at 5:30 p.m.

Singer/actors should come prepared to sing a song of their choice with piano accompaniment (pianist provided, if needed.)

This Meredith Wilson musical plot concerns a con man, Harold Hill who poses as a boys' band organizer and leader. He sells band instruments and uniforms to naïve townsfolk before skipping town with the cash. However, in River City, prim Marian the librarian sees through him. When Hill helps her younger brother overcome his fear of social interactions due to his lisp, Marian begins to fall in love with Harold. Harold, in turn falling for Marian, risks being caught to win her. Great songs include "Iowa Stubborn," "Trouble," "Goodnight My Someone," "Seventy-Six Trombones," "Marian The Librarian," "Gary, Indiana" and "Till There Was You."
