The Park Rapids Area Community Band, under the direction of Dr. Russell Pesola, presents its fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Park Rapids High School auditorium. “The concert will feature music from many different places around the world and from different times in history, highlighted by two pieces by the very talented young American composer Brian Balmages. His ‘Joy of Life’ is inspired by the music and spirit of his home, the city of New Orleans,” said Pesola.
Music selections include “Four French Songs of the 16th Century” by Robert Hanson, “Prelude and Fugue in G Minor” by Bach, “Jamaican Rumba” and “Escapade for Trombones,” among others. The band will be joined by guest xylophonist Erik Kiesz, an avid musician who has performed in various ensembles throughout North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota for over 20 years. He has played percussion and piano for over 35 years. Kiesz performed in the pit orchestra for the Northern Lights Opera’s production of “West Side Story” this past August. A 1995 graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, he has a xomputer acience degree and music minor. He currently is a Software Developer for CoreLink Administrative Solutions in Fargo.
