Kat Perkins' song makes first round for Grammy nomination

MINNEAPOLIS – North Dakota’s Rockin’ Nanny may be up for a Grammy.

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences congratulated Kat Perkins Friday via Facebook. The post states Perkins single, “Fearless,” made the first round of the Grammy Awards competition for Best Rock Song and Best Rock Performance.

The Scranton, N.D., native who now lives in the Twin Cities appeared on the NBC singing competition show “The Voice,” where she was a semifinalist.

Perkins has released the single after the competition. The song is an expression of Perkins journey throughout the last year, including her time on “The Voice,” she previously told The Press.

“It’s the summer of trying new things,” Perkins said. “The experience was so inspiring that I just had to have a song that captures a lot of that, and I think ‘Fearless’ does.”

She is now on tour across the Midwest.

Academy voting members will choose the nominations. The nominees will be announced Dec. 5 in Nashville, Tenn. The winners will be announced during the 57th Annual Grammy Awards, which will air Feb. 8.
