Saturday, July 28
A motorcyclist "Fund Run," benefiting Audrey's Purple Dream (Akeley's fundraiser for those affected by cancer), will be held Saturday, July 28 beginning at the Akeley Municipal Liquor Store.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. with motorcycles leaving the muni at noon. Stops include the Pine River VFW, Willard's in Backus, Docksider in Longville, Akeley's Stompin' Grounds and Paul's Patio.
Cost is $20 per person, $30 per couple, which includes a meal. There will be a beer garden and live music beginning at 7:30 p.m. Free camping is available behind the patio.
The Anderson Family Singers will perform "Southern Spirituals" at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 28 at the Finn Creek Museum in New York Mills.
There is no charge. Refreshments will be served. All donations support the Finn Creek Museum.
Monday, July 30
Hubbard County Historical Society will conduct a short meeting at 7 p.m. Monday July 30 in the museum basement with a program presented by Dean Urdahl to follow at 7:30 p.m.
Urdahl is a retired teacher, state representative, author and expert on the U.S. - Dakota War of 1862.
His program is entitled "The Dakota Conflict." Refreshments will be served. The museum is located at 301 Court Ave. The meeting room is handicap accessible.

Friday, Aug. 10
The Northern Knights celebrate their 29th annual Run to the Rapids street rods show Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11 in Park Rapids.
Registration begins at 4 p.m. on Friday at the C'mon Inn. Registration fee is $25 and includes two $6 meal tickets for Saturday's dinner (participating restaurants' name will be on meal card). Make payments payable to "Northern Knights".
Following that there will be food and soda served, with rock-n-roll music to top it all off. This event is free to all participants.
Saturday kicks off with registration at 8 a.m. on Main street in downtown Park Rapids, following that will be the show-n-shine and trophy presentation at noon.
There will be drawings for cash and prizes all morning for registered participants. Must be present to win; club members not eligible.
After a meal at a restaurant of your choice from 5-7 p.m., stop by the C'mon Inn for a free root beer float.

Legends and Logging will celebrate our area's history, culture, artisans and food Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10 and 11 at the Park Rapids Antique Tractor Club Grounds on County Road 6, a half mile south of Highway 34.
Skilled chainsaw artists and fiercely competitive loggers will entertain, loons and loony contests will call, and artisans and crafters will engage visitors.
Activities will include kick boxing demonstrations, beekeepers, farmer's market vendors with demonstrations of their craft, spinning, blacksmithing, a cooperage demonstration and a chili and hot wings contest.
Kids' activities will including face painting and caricatures, and wonderful down home, foot stomping blue grass, country and folk music throughout both days.
In 2012, world record-holding lumberjacks will be back to compete. Logging Days, Park Rapids' signature event for more than 25 years, was established to honor the rich heritage of logging in this neck of the woods. Logging events feature World Champion and World Record-Breaking Lumberjacks and Lumberjills competing in wood chopping and sawing contests. Points these skilled competitors earn here will count toward the Lumberjack World Championships in Hayward, Wis.
Master chainsaw carvers will create north woods masterpieces during several demonstrations. Competition will be keen as the chips fly and a masterpiece emerges from a raw piece of wood. All finished carvings will be auctioned off to the highest bidders.
Visitors will find the unique creations of area artisans at The Market Place. There will also be demonstrations throughout the day.
Food vendors serve a variety of fare from buffalo burgers and corn on the cob to fresh fruit and smoothies. A Chili and Hot Wings cook-off contest will be sponsored by DeLaHunt Broadcasting.
Terrapin Station will be providing musical entertainment from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and noon to 5 p.m. Saturday.
Other activities will include the Park Rapids firefighters' water fights on Main Street Thursday, Aug. 9, the annual Sweet Corn and Burger Feed at the Park Rapids American Legion Friday, Aug. 10 and the Northern Knights Car Club's Run to the Rapids Aug. 10 and 11.
Thursday, Aug. 16
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council will showcase the artistic talents of area youth during Youth Music and Arts Showcase IV Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 16-18 in downtown Park Rapids.
Student artists' works, including paintings, photography, sculpture and pottery, will be shown at businesses in downtown Park Rapids.
A panel of judges will view the students' works.
A schedule of the young artists and venues will be available.
to guide people to all locations. Daycare providers and parents of preschoolers are invited to do chalk art on downtown sidewalks Friday morning.
Free chalk will be available at Wildwood Enchantment, 209 South Main Ave.
The showcase provides young musicians with an opportunity to perform downtown Friday, Aug. 17 and play in a concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, the last in the 2nd Street Stage summer music series.
