Heartland Concert season to begin

Tickets are now on sale for the Heartland Concert season, with performances at 7:30 p.m. at the Park Rapids Area High School auditorium.

Admission is by season ticket, which are available at Beagle Books and Thrifty White Drug in Walker.

Ticket holders may attend concerts in Wadena and Brainerd at no additional charge.

Sponsors receive added recognition in the concert program, will be featured in the advertising and it's tax deductible.

n This season's performers include The Marlins, brothers Gary, Jace, Rick and Robert, who offer a true variety show - from Big Band to jazz to bluegrass to rock 'n' roll. Their instruments include keyboard, drums, trumpet, guitar, bass, violin and banjo - singing with a "blood blend" harmony.

They will perform Tuesday, Sept. 28.

n Jazz singer Terry Blaine, pianist Mark Shane and clarinetist Allan Vache will spotlight the great female vocalists from the Goodman Band, including Billie Holiday, Peggy Lee and Ella Fitzgerald Tuesday, Oct. 12.

Tiger Rag, Lulu's Back in Town, I Can't Give You Anything But Love and Jeepers Creepers are among the repertoire.

n Intersection, forging a connection with audiences worldwide, will take the stage Monday, Nov. 8.

The musicians include violinist Laura Frautschi, chamber musician Reiko Cooper and Grammy nominated pianist John Novacek.

The trio will present a program from all spectrums of the music world - from Ravel, Dvorak or Brahms to film and theater music.

n Edgar Cruz, a headliner for the Chet Atkins Festival in Nashville and winner of the Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in Kansas, will perform Friday, Feb. 11.

When Cruz performs, audience participation is encouraged - clapping, snapping, yee haws and dancing are part of his performance. Music ranges from Beethoven to Beatles, Big Band to Berlin.

n The Brett Family Singers will take the stage Tuesday, May 3. The Branson singers are known for family harmonies but are also notable soloists.

Their music ranges from the '30s to the present - country, gospel and a cappella.
