2010 Young Adult Writing Contest begins Jan. 25

The Park Rapids Area Library announces the fourth annual Young Adult Writing Contest, beginning Monday, Jan. 25. Students from Park Rapids, Nevis, Menahga, Laporte as well as home-schooled students are invited to submit a short story two to four pages in length, beginning with the sentence "Trapped. A rat in a maze, a tiger in a cage, every cliché he could think of - he was trapped."

This year's contest will be divided into two categories, the first for students in 7-9 grades, and the second for students in 10-12 grades. Every student entering the contest will be given $2 in Book Sale Bucks from Friends of the Library, to be used to purchase books at the Friends Library Book Sales. A First Place prize of $20 Chamber Bucks will be awarded to the winning entry in each category. The winning entries will also be published in the Park Rapids Enterprise.

Entries must be typed and submitted to the library by the deadline of Friday, Feb. 19. Winners will be announced on Friday, Feb. 26. Names should not be included on the typed entry, but a number will be assigned to each entry, so judges will not know who the authors are. For questions, call the Park Rapids Area Library at 732-4966 and ask for Nancy.
