Annual pie contest raises $1,090 for Park Rapids Area Library

Thirty-two pies were entered into the John Michael Lerma Fourth of July Pie Baking Contest, hosted for the 10th consecutive year by Beagle and Wolf Books & Bindery. It’s a fundraiser for the public library. Above, chef and head judge Tom Geraedts starts the auction. The highest bid was $110 for Blueberry with a Little Bit of Bailey’s Pie.2 / 2

Olivia Wallace, at right, won Best of Show and first place in the cream/custard category with her Strawberry Dream Pie. Other categories were single crust, double crust and juvenile division for 8- to 12-year-olds. Winning first place for single crust was Mark Bridge’s Strawberry Frangipane Tart. Second place went to Katie Laxson and her Key Lime with Chocolate Crust. Bridge also captured first place in double crust with Bumble Berry. Terry Novak’s Apple Pie with a Bit of Moonshine took second place. Kyra Eischen’s entered her Lemon Custard Pie, earning second place in the cream/custard category. Olivia Bakke took first in the juvenile division, offering Dark Chocolate Pie with Chocolate Chip Cookie Crust. Second place went to Emma Lieser’s Lemon Chiffon with Lemon White Chocolate Cookie Crust.
