Carter’s Red Wagon Farm will once again herald autumn’s arrival with pumpkin parties on a grand scale – replete with Hobbit-themed wagon rides, performances by a mechanical scarecrow band and a labyrinthine corn maze, Itasca this year’s theme.

The season kick-off begins with a “mini” pumpkin party from 2 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, with the smaller-scaled festivities continuing Fridays in October.

The grand pumpkin shindigs will be from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays in October, (as well as Friday, Oct. 18 when kids are out of school).

The activities will include journeys through the 6.5-acre “amaizing” maze, setting sail in the giant pumpkin boats, Hobbit sightings on wagon rides, performances by illusionists Calvin Gunn and Imaginick and, new this year, the rockin’, squawking scarecrow band.

Mini golf, a crow shoot event with a chance to win prizes, a maze of mirth, a duck race, hay bale maze, straw bale tunnel, animal wagons and a barrel train will entertain, as will a shooting gallery.

Saturday, Oct. 19, the Wranglers will perform cowboy, bluegrass and gospel tunes at noon and 2 p.m.

Concessions will be available.

Admission is $7.50 which includes one ticket for the four ticketed events. (Additional tickets are $1 each.) Admission for children 2 and under is free.

Tony and Linda Carter are the masterminds behind the merriment.

From Park Rapids, head west on Highway 34 or south on Highway 71 and watch for signs.
