Long Lake Theater begins 11th season

Long Lake Theater

Don't let the tiny village of Hubbard deceive you - it packs an artistic whollop!

Celebrating its 11th anniversary, Long Lake Theater boasts two intimate, 100-seat theaters and delivers smash-hit comedies, drama and musicals throughout the year.

Beginning in June, the warm, appealing family comedy "Over the River and Through the Woods" takes the stage. Nick Cristano, a single young guy from New Jersey, dutifully visits his loving and loony Italian-American grandparents for dinner every Sunday.

Disaster strikes when Nick announces he's been offered his dream job - across the country. The four grandparents concoct a scheme that sets in a motion a deliciously funny chain of events that surprises them all. Performances are June 6 -30.

Rhoda Jackson, a popular local actor, will perform "The Belle of Amherst," written by William Luce. Based on the life of poet Emily Dickinson from 1830-1886, and set in her Amherst, Mass. home, the one-woman play uses her work, diaries and letters to recall her encounters with the significant people in her life. There will be only two 3 p.m. matinee performances June 9 -10.

In July, it's the musical comedy "Don't Hug Me County Fair," set in Bunyan Bay, Minn. Trouble begins when Gunner's wife, Clara, decides she wants to compete against a pretty waitress for Miss Walleye Queen.

When Gunner's estranged twin sister, Trigger, shows up at the beauty contest, things get ugly, you betcha! This wildly funny show appears at Long Lake Theater from July 5- Aug. 4.

"Barefoot in the Park," by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Neil Simon, runs Aug. 8-25. Set in 1964, newlyweds Corie and Paul must negotiate their first apartment, eccentric neighbors and a meddling mother. This lighthearted romantic comedy sparkles with lively wordplay, laughs and charming characters who find joy amid inspired lunacy.

Long Lake Theater holds just the ticket for quality, family-friendly entertainment. Show times are 3 p.m. Wednesdays and 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
