Park Rapids Area High School actors and actresses will perform "A Piece of My Heart" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 10 and 11 in the auditorium.

This is a powerful, award winning drama written by Shirley Lauro, from stories told in the Keith Walker book of the same name.

The play focuses on the true stories of six women, three nurses, an officer, a Red Cross volunteer, and a singer, who served and sacrificed in the Vietnam War during the late 1960s.

The play portrays each young woman before, during and after her tour in the war. The music of the era intertwines with the dialogue as the characters weave through flashbacks of injured soldiers, and surgeries, finding good times and enduring bad times, to the emotional traumas that continue to haunt them long after the war's end.

The play takes no political sides but the stories aren't sugar-coated. A cast of 16 tells this incredible story of those women who served with little credit or acknowledgment by the American public.

These women put a face on the casualty of war.
