Wild card Langseth gets boot on 'Idol'

Jesse Langseth

Last week on "American Idol" Jesse Langseth drew criticism from the show's judges for her song choice of "Bette Davis Eyes." During Thursday night's wild card round, they praised the former Fargoan for her choice of the Stevie Wonder-penned "Tell Me Something Good."

But her take on the soulful classic still wasn't enough for Langseth to move into "Idol's" final round. After being given a second chance to advance, Langseth's surprising run on "Idol" is over.

Though, if moral victories can be counted, Langseth found redemption by finally winning over one of TV's harshest critics, "Idol's" resident bad guy Simon Cowell. After telling Langseth she didn't make the cut, Cowell said, "You nearly did."

The acknowledgement might be moot. But it wasn't Cowell's only compliment for Langseth. Earlier in Thursday's episode Cowell told Langseth that she was the last woman selected to compete in the wild card round. "And I'm glad we did," Cowell said. "You have a good voice."

Still, her voice won't be singing on "Idol" anymore. Rather, Anoop Desai, Jasmine Murray, Matt Giraud and Megan Joy Corkrey moved on to the finals. The four advanced after the judges selected them.
