Violinist, saxophonist close Noon Hour Concert series
Melanie and Michael Hanson will perform at the final Noon Hour Concert Thursday, Aug. 24 at Calvary Lutheran Church.
The concert, held from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., is free and open to the public. Audience members are invited to bring their lunch to eat before the performance. Bars and beverages will be served.
They will play a few jazzy arrangements of favorite hymns, a couple classical movements, and their own arrangement of music from John William's "Schindler's List" soundtrack.
Melanie, a violinist, is concertmaster of the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra and director of the Park Rapids Classic Chorale. She earned a doctorate of musical arts from the University of Minnesota and a master of music in violin performance from Youngstown State, Ohio. She has a bachelor of music in instrumental and choral music education from Concordia College, Moorhead.
Michael is an award-winning concert saxophonist, conductor and teacher. He has performed concerts in Finland, Sweden, Norway, Estonia, Russia, Switzerland and throughout the U.S. and Canada. As an avid chamber musician, he often collaborates with members of the Minnesota Orchestra and St. Paul Chamber Orchestra. He has commissioned several works for violin, saxophone, and piano, an eclectic instrumentation allowing a diverse range of musical possibilities.
The husband-wife duo are also school teachers, directing music at New Salem Lutheran in Turtle River.
