'South Pacific' sweeping into Park Rapids
Let warm, summer breezes and Northern Light Opera Company (NLOC) transport you in time and place as they bring Rodgers & Hammerstein's "South Pacific" to the stage July 28 through August 5.
Seating is limited for this long-running musical that earned a Pulitzer Prize for drama as well as eight Tony awards.
The World War II setting features interactions between American troops and nurses with the local South Pacific inhabitants. The characters are charming but conflicted, with delightful music and issues about cultural and racial differences that are as relevant today as they were in the 1950s.
NLOC celebrates its 16th year of producing professional-quality musical theater in the heart of lake country. Lisa Dove, a Juilliard drama graduate, and Greg Paul, University of Ohio, return as stage and technical directors.
"South Pacific" entertains as one of the most popular musicals, with many memorable songs like "Some Enchanted Evening," "I'm Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair" and "Bali Ha'i."
Live performances will be held at the peak of summer, but air-conditioned theater comfort awaits at Armory Square on Highway 71, downtown Park Rapids.
Past Northern Light Opera Company's summer productions have filled to capacity. Tickets are on sale at Beagle and Wolf Books and Bindery in Park Rapids or online at Brown Paper Tickets. Find out more at www.NorthernLightOpera.org.
